ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government provided relief to the inflation-weary public on Saturday by reducing the price of petrol for the next two weeks, marking the first decrease in two-and-a-half months.

There is a drop of Rs 8 per litre in price of petrol, bringing it down to Rs 323.38 per litre. Additionally, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has seen a decrease of Rs 11 per litre, now priced at Rs 318.18.
Caretaker Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi indicated that the petrol price might decrease in the upcoming review, attributed to the substantial appreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar. He stated that the rupee had strengthened by Rs 30 to Rs 35 against the US dollar due to recent administrative measures by the caretaker government.
It’s worth noting that the government had previously raised petrol and diesel prices significantly on September 15, despite earlier promises of relief for the public. They implemented a significant increase of Rs 26.2 per litre for petrol, establishing the new price at Rs 331.38 per litre.
Diesel also saw a hike of Rs 17.34 per litre, resulting in a new price of Rs 329.18 per litre. Within a month, the caretaker government raised petrol prices by Rs 58 per litre and diesel by Rs 56 per litre.
