Lower International Rates Fuel Expectations of Price Cut
Pakistani consumers may receive significant relief at fuel stations in the coming days as petroleum prices are expected to decline following a sharp drop in international oil markets.
According to market reports, authorities are reviewing updated fuel pricing data ahead of the next official adjustment, with expectations growing that petrol and diesel rates could decrease by as much as Rs15 per litre.
The anticipated reduction comes after notable declines in global crude oil and refined fuel prices, which have eased pressure on import costs.
Meanwhile, industry data shows substantial decreases in ex-refinery fuel prices, strengthening expectations of lower retail rates across the country.
Analysts believe the development could provide relief to households, transport operators, and businesses facing higher energy expenses in recent months.
Additionally, lower fuel costs may help reduce transportation expenses and support broader economic activity if the expected reductions are approved.
Ex-Refinery Prices Decline Despite Higher Premium Costs
According to reports, the ex-refinery price of diesel has fallen by approximately Rs31 per litre, while the ex-refinery price of petrol has declined by Rs8.54 per litre.
These reductions have increased expectations that consumers will benefit from lower prices during the next pricing cycle.
However, market data also indicates that petrol premiums have risen in international markets.
Reports show the premium increased by around $2.90 per barrel, moving from $17.44 per barrel to approximately $20.34 per barrel.
Consequently, the higher premium has partially offset the gains generated by falling crude oil and refined product prices.
Nevertheless, analysts note that the overall downward trend in global energy markets continues to support expectations of meaningful reductions in local fuel prices.
The government is expected to announce its final pricing decision after reviewing international market trends, import costs, exchange rate movements, and applicable taxes and levies.
Consumers and businesses are now closely watching for the official notification that will determine fuel prices for the upcoming period.
