FIR Alleges Immorality, Religious Offense; Courts Also Petitioned
PESHAWAR: Police in the Hayatabad area of Peshawar have filed a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) against the organizers of a planned party labeled as “immoral” and “controversial” by authorities and members of the public.
According to details from the First Information Report (FIR), the case was registered on the complaint of Hayatabad SHO Tariq Khan, following the promotion of an event called the Color Festival on social media platforms. The promotions were allegedly carried out by an individual known as DJ Mir, who was also collecting ticket payments through various online channels.
The event was scheduled to take place at Bagh-e-Naran, a public recreational park in Hayatabad. However, the proposed gathering sparked widespread criticism from religious groups and community members, who expressed serious concerns about its nature and content. The FIR notes that such events have the potential to “promote immoral values” and “mislead the younger generation,” sentiments echoed by several religious scholars and conservative organizations.
The police stated that religious sentiments were hurt by the promotional material, which they claim goes against societal and cultural norms. Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a religious political party, also submitted a formal written complaint, urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
So far, the case has been registered against unknown organizers, and investigations are underway to identify the individuals involved in promoting and planning the event.
Additionally, legal proceedings related to the event have been initiated in both the Session Court and the Peshawar High Court, indicating the seriousness with which the matter is being pursued by various stakeholders.
