PESHAWAR: It was on Tuesday that a gender-protection section was set up at the women’s police station in the capital city’s police lines.
The facility includes a day-care facility for the children of women who have been detained, a reporting room for women and transgender people, and a contemporary lockup.
CCPO Ijaz Khan and members from Group Development Pakistan were on hand to open the province’s first-ever gender protection section. It is housed in a new structure that was built just for it.
According to CCPO Ijaz Khan’s remarks at a meeting on women’s issues, all resources are being devoted to addressing the needs of women in society as swiftly as possible.
He said that women officers had been stationed at Police Access Lines (PAL) and at Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs). To improve the effectiveness of female police officers, he hoped that a new gender protection section would be established.
According to him, “there is a daycare centre for those ladies who would come to the police station seeking assistance and those women who are detained in connection with other incidents.”
The facility has SHO offices, as well as residential barracks.
