Following allegations of poisoning towards Bushra Bibi, spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, while she was at the Bani Gala sub-jail, her personal physician Dr. Asim Yousuf has stated that he conducted a medical checkup but found no confirmation of any poisonous substance administered to her.
Dr. Yousuf stated in an interview with Geo News that there is currently no evidence supporting the claim of Bushra Bibi being poisoned. He mentioned that no medical tests are being conducted to confirm the administration of any poisonous substance since no such symptoms have been detected. According to him, Bushra Bibi’s health deteriorated after a meal she had two months ago, leading her to consume less food due to subsequent health issues.
The physician admitted being unaware of the specific health issues she faced two months prior. Dr. Yousuf emphasized the need for medical tests considering her age and to address any potential health problems, especially stomach-related issues.
He also mentioned his upcoming meeting with Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, on Saturday. Regarding Khan’s health, Dr. Yousuf confirmed that although the former premier is currently doing well, his appetite has not fully normalized after recovering from a minor illness.
During a court hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail concerning the £190 million settlement case, Imran Khan informed the judge that his wife was poisoned while at the Bani Gala sub-jail. Khan reported marks on Bushra Bibi’s skin and tongue after the alleged incident and sought the court’s order for an inquiry and a complete medical checkup for her.
In her interaction with journalists before the court appearance, Bushra Bibi claimed that “three drops of toilet cleaner” were mixed in her food on the eve of Shab-e-Meraj. She mentioned that both the food and water provided by the jail tasted bitter. However, she declined to disclose the name of the official who allegedly informed her about the toilet cleaner being mixed in her food. She described experiencing swelling in her eyes, as well as pain in her chest and stomach.
