Pensioners who did not obtain a NADRA proof-of-life certificate in September do not need to worry about an immediate stoppage of their pension payments.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that failure to obtain the certificate alone will not lead to the suspension of a pension.
The clarification is expected to address concerns among retired employees who feared that missing the September requirement could affect their monthly payments.
NADRA Clarifies Pension Payment Rules
NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shabahat Ali provided the clarification during a podcast.
He said the non-issuance of a proof-of-life certificate through NADRA would not, by itself, result in pension payments being stopped.
According to the official, the Government of Pakistan has already decided against suspending pensions solely because a retiree did not obtain the certificate.
Therefore, pensioners who missed obtaining the document in September will not lose their payments on that basis alone.
The clarification covers retired employees from several institutions across the country. It includes former personnel of the Army and other armed forces.
It also applies to retirees from federal and provincial government departments.
Pensioners Without NADRA Certificate Won’t Face Suspension
Syed Shabahat Ali further explained that the decision also covers employees of institutions that have not yet approached NADRA.
Such institutions have not yet obtained proof-of-life certificate services from the authority. Consequently, their retired employees will not have their pensions suspended for lacking the certificate.
The clarification provides relief to pensioners who may have been concerned about whether the document was compulsory for receiving their payments.
However, the government’s decision specifically relates to suspension based solely on the absence of a NADRA proof-of-life certificate.
NADRA Facilitating Proof-of-Life Certificates
NADRA has been working with relevant institutions to facilitate proof-of-life certificate services for pensioners.
The authority is coordinating with these institutions to make the certification process available to retired employees.
Meanwhile, the latest clarification makes clear that pension payments will not be stopped simply because a pensioner failed to obtain the certificate from NADRA.
As a result, pensioners can continue receiving their payments despite not having obtained the proof-of-life certificate in September.
The clarification also extends to retirees whose institutions have yet to approach NADRA for the certificate service. This provides wider assurance across the affected pensioner groups.
For pensioners, the key point remains that the absence of a NADRA proof-of-life certificate alone will not trigger suspension of their pension payments.
