ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has discovered another young fast bowler capable of exceeding 150 kilometres per hour speed.
Qayyum Khan, new fast bowler, is getting training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore for perfection in speedy and accurate delivery of balls during matches.
The Jhang-born pacer emerged through the Prime Minister’s Talent Hunt Program. He later represented Sports Board Punjab in the President’s Trophy Grade-II Silver competition.
Aaqib Javed Highlights Emerging Fast Bowler
PCB Director High Performance Aaqib Javed has identified Qayyum Khan as one of Pakistan’s most promising young fast bowlers.
According to Aaqib, Qayyum can regularly bowl at around 150km/h and can also cross that speed.
Therefore, the PCB has started specialised training to develop his skills and prepare him for higher-level cricket. Qayyum is currently among 12 fast bowlers attending a five-day development camp at the NCA from August 24 to 28. The group includes experienced international players and emerging pacers. Seven of the 12 bowlers remain uncapped.
PCB Expands Fast-Bowling Development Programme
During the camp, coaches are focusing on technical and tactical aspects of fast bowling. They are also assessing the players’ recent performances.
Pakistan’s white-ball fast-bowling coach Ashley Noffke is also participating in the specialised training programme.
Meanwhile, Qayyum is not the only young pacer attracting attention from the PCB. Ali Raza, Razaullah, Abdul Subhan and Abuzar have also demonstrated the ability to bowl above 145km/h.
With the discovery of new fast bowlers, the Pakistan Cricket Board aims to build a stronger pool of express fast bowlers for Pakistan’s future matches to give tough time to rival teams.
