LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former cricketer Usama Shahroon as acting Director of Domestic Cricket with immediate effect as the board continues to oversee its revamped domestic structure.
Shahroon currently serves as the PCB’s Senior General Manager of Domestic Cricket Operations. He will assume the acting director’s responsibilities in addition to continuing in his existing position.
The Director of Domestic Cricket position had remained vacant since April 2026, when Abdullah Khurram Niazi completed his two-year tenure on deputation and stepped down from the role.
Niazi subsequently joined the Capital Development Authority in a new position.
Shahroon Takes Charge After Role Remains Vacant
Shahroon has remained closely involved with the PCB’s domestic cricket operations and played a role in planning and implementing the revamped domestic cricket calendar for the 2026-27 season.
His appointment comes as the PCB continues restructuring domestic competitions and managing an expanded departmental cricket system.
The revised structure includes more than 40 departments from across Pakistan, divided into Grade-I, Grade-II and the newly introduced Grade-III tiers.
Furthermore, the changes form part of the board’s broader effort to organise competitive domestic cricket across multiple levels and provide a structured pathway for participating departments and players.
Former All-Rounder Moves Further Into Cricket Administration
Before beginning his career in cricket administration, Shahroon played professionally as a fast-bowling all-rounder.
He made his first-class debut in 2007 and appeared in six professional matches during his playing career. Additionally, he represented Rawalpindi Rams in one Twenty20 match in 2009.
Meanwhile, the PCB has not announced a permanent appointment for the Director of Domestic Cricket position.
Consequently, Shahroon will continue overseeing the department in an acting capacity while simultaneously performing his duties as Senior General Manager of Domestic Cricket Operations.
