ISLAMABAD: PTI President Parvez Elahi was rearrested on Tuesday, marking the 10th time he has been taken into custody. This arrest came shortly after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and ordered his release.
According to Islamabad police, Parvez Elahi was arrested in connection with a case registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station.
The PTI shared footage of Elahi’s arrest and criticized the authorities for his latest detention. They decried what they saw as a lack of respect for court orders. PTI framed Elahi’s arrest as a result of his unwavering commitment to Pakistan and his refusal to leave the PTI despite significant pressure.

In response to the arrest, Elahi’s lawyer, Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan, expressed strong disapproval. He stated that the situation has gone beyond acceptable limits and amounted to injustice against the country and its institutions. He characterized it as a mockery of the law and the Constitution.
The lawyer further explained that after he and Elahi had entered their car outside the jail, some individuals blocked their path. They forcibly opened the car door, and removed him, his driver, and an associate from the vehicle. Meanwhile, Elahi was, in his words, “abducted” and taken away.
FIR against Parvez Elahi
Malik Rasheed, the Station House Officer of Ramna police, filed the FIR against Parvez Elahi at the CTD police station on March 18. The case stemmed from clashes that occurred between Islamabad Police and PTI workers outside the Judicial Complex.
The FIR included charges under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act. These charges encompass offenses such as rioting with a deadly weapon, unlawful assembly, obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties, assault on public servants, theft, dacoity, mischief, and criminal intimidation.
On March 18, there were confrontations between the police and PTI workers during a hearing related to the Toshakhana case at the Judicial Complex. Islamabad police alleged that PTI workers attacked the Judicial Complex and set fire to a police post. In response, the PTI accused the police of shelling Imran Khan’s vehicle during the incident.
