ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has declared two rooms at Parliament Lodges in Islamabad as sub-jails for detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers Sanaullah Masti Khel and Dawar Khan Kundi.
According to ARY News, rooms 303-C and 505-J have been designated as sub-jails following the issuance of production orders for the two members of the National Assembly. Both lawmakers have been shifted to Parliament Lodges to facilitate their attendance at parliamentary proceedings.
The development followed a meeting between PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. During the meeting, Gohar requested production orders for detained party members, arguing that their presence was necessary for parliamentary business.
“Our members are in custody. They should be brought to the House,” Gohar told the speaker, according to the report.
Ayaz Sadiq assured him that he would seek legal advice regarding the matter before proceeding.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi addressed the joint sitting of Parliament and discussed security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed the provincial government had expressed reluctance to support counterterrorism efforts because of the potential political consequences.
Naqvi also referred to previous attempts by the federal government to coordinate with provincial authorities on security matters.
The developments come amid heightened political tensions between the federal government and PTI, alongside continuing concerns about security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
