Palestinians gathered in Gaza City on Tuesday to mourn 112 people recovered from the rubble of destroyed homes. The victims were killed during Israeli strikes in November 2023.
Thousands attended funeral prayers in the Sabra neighbourhood. Mourners draped the bodies in Palestinian flags and placed them beside the ruins of the destroyed homes.
After the prayers, funeral processions moved toward the Baptist Cemetery in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood. Families and residents paid their final respects to the victims.
Victims Belonged To Two Families
The recovered victims belonged to the Al-Hasayneh and Abu Sharia families. Israeli forces bombed their homes on November 23, 2023, while family members remained inside.
Civil defence teams recovered the bodies from the rubble on Saturday. According to officials, the victims included 40 children, 38 women, and seven people with disabilities.
However, Civil Defence official Mohammad Abu Dan said rescue teams could not recover 157 additional bodies. He stated they remain trapped beneath the rubble.
Thousands Still Missing Under Rubble
The funeral is considered one of the largest in Palestinian history because of the high number of victims. Meanwhile, authorities continue searching for those still missing.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli military operations since October 2023 have killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others.
The ministry also said attacks continued despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025. Palestinian authorities estimate that nearly 9,500 people remain buried beneath collapsed buildings across Gaza.
