Palestine’s Supreme Fatwa Council condemned recent mosque arson attacks in the occupied West Bank. The council described the incidents as systematic crimes targeting Islamic holy sites. The statement followed separate attacks on mosques in Nablus and Tulkarm.
Council Condemns Mosque Attacks
According to the council, illegal Israeli settlers set fire to two mosques. One mosque was located in Kur village, south of Tulkarm. The second mosque was under construction in Qusra, south of Nablus.
The council also said attackers painted racist slogans on mosque walls. It described the incidents as part of systematic policies targeting Palestinian religious rights. Furthermore, the council accused Israeli authorities of enabling attacks against places of worship.
The statement claimed Israeli security forces provided protection to illegal settlers. However, Israeli authorities have not responded to the allegations mentioned in the statement.
Concerns Raised Over Al-Aqsa Mosque
The council also criticised continued Israeli actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem. It alleged authorities imposed strict restrictions on worshippers entering the mosque. Moreover, it claimed Israeli forces increased their presence around the Old City.
According to the council, Israeli authorities allowed illegal settlers to enter Al-Aqsa’s courtyards. It also alleged settlers performed Talmudic rituals inside the mosque. The council described these actions as attempts to alter the site’s historical and legal status quo.
Earlier, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that settlers attacked the mosque in Kur village. The report said the fire caused partial damage to the building and its interior. Meanwhile, tensions remain high across the occupied West Bank following the incidents.
