The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) added a record 25,281 new investors in September 2026, marking the highest monthly increase in its investor base. The latest additions pushed the total number of investors to 656,218, highlighting growing participation in Pakistan’s capital market.
Khurram Schehzad shared the figures in a post on X, pointing to a major shift in market participation.
PSX Records Highest Monthly Investor Growth
The addition of 25,281 investors in September represents the highest number recorded in a single month. As a result, the PSX investor base has expanded significantly in recent years. Schehzad noted that the number of investors has more than doubled since March 2024.
The increase suggests that participation in the stock market is expanding beyond traditional investor groups.
Moreover, the growing investor base could help broaden participation in Pakistan’s capital markets.
Gen-Z Joins Pakistan’s Stock Market
A notable feature of the recent growth is the increasing participation of Gen-Z investors. According to Schehzad, most of the new participants belong to the younger generation. This shift indicates that younger Pakistanis are increasingly showing interest in stocks and capital-market investments.
Meanwhile, easier access to digital financial services and greater awareness of investing could support wider participation.
The changing investor profile also means that the PSX is attracting participants from a broader demographic base.
Investor Base Surpasses 656,000
With the September additions, the PSX investor base reached 656,218. The latest figure reflects a significant expansion compared with March 2024, when the investor base was less than half its current level. Therefore, the growth represents more than just an increase in the number of accounts.
It also points to a broader pool of individuals participating in Pakistan’s capital market.
Broader Participation Strengthens Capital Markets
The increase in investors comes alongside growing attention toward Pakistan’s stock market. Schehzad said the change is visible not only in market performance but also in who is participating. He summarised the development as more investors, broader participation and deeper capital markets.
A larger investor base can also increase public participation in listed companies and improve the connection between households and financial markets.
For now, the record September increase highlights the changing profile of Pakistan’s stock-market participants.
With more than 656,000 investors now part of the PSX, younger participants are becoming an increasingly visible part of the country’s investment landscape.
