Pakistan’s rice exports recorded a massive increase in September 2026, rising nearly 150% compared with the same month last year.
The sharp growth highlights Pakistan’s improving performance in international rice markets.
According to figures shared by Rafique Suleman, an executive committee member of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Pakistan exported 420,277 metric tons of rice in September.
In comparison, exports reached 168,322 metric tons in September 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 149.7%.
Basmati Rice Exports Record Strong Growth
Basmati rice exports jumped from 35,109 metric tons to 101,271 metric tons.
Meanwhile, exports of other rice varieties increased from 133,213 metric tons to around 319,000 metric tons.
Pakistan also recorded strong growth during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
Total rice exports reached approximately 1.075 million metric tons between July and September.
During the same period last year, exports stood at 713,794 metric tons.
This represents an increase of nearly 51%.
Pakistan Eyes Record Rice Exports
Suleman praised farmers, exporters, and rice millers for their contribution to the growth.
He also predicted that Pakistan could produce around 10 million metric tons of rice this season.
Such production could help the country expand its presence in global markets.
However, Suleman urged the government to introduce better trade policies and reduce energy costs.
He also called for improved port operations, faster shipments, and stronger international marketing.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to explore new markets while maintaining existing trade relationships.
The latest figures suggest Pakistan could achieve stronger rice export performance during the current fiscal year.
