Domestic assembly records strong monthly recovery as locally produced devices meet 97% of Pakistan’s mobile phone demand
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly increased nine per cent year-on-year to 3.90 million units in July 2026, reflecting a strong recovery in domestic production, according to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Local assembly also surged 102 per cent compared with the previous month, marking a sharp rebound after consumers delayed purchases ahead of the FY27 federal budget.
Consequently, improved consumer demand helped manufacturers significantly increase production during July.
However, cumulative local manufacturing remained below last year’s level. Pakistan produced and assembled 17 million mobile phones during the first seven months of 2026, representing a five per cent decline from 17.83 million units during the corresponding period of 2025.
Mobile Phone Imports Fall Sharply
Meanwhile, imports continued to decline as locally assembled devices strengthened their position in the domestic market.
Pakistan imported only 110,000 mobile phones during July, representing a 35 per cent year-on-year decline and an 83 per cent drop compared with June.
Despite lower imports, the country’s overall mobile phone supply reached 4.01 million units during July, rising seven per cent year-on-year and 56 per cent month-on-month.
Furthermore, total mobile phone supply reached 19.66 million units during the January-July period, four per cent higher than the corresponding period last year.
Local Production Captures 97% of Market
As a result, locally manufactured and assembled phones accounted for 97 per cent of Pakistan’s mobile phone demand during July.
The proportion represents a significant increase from 75 per cent recorded in May 2026.
Overall, domestic manufacturing satisfied approximately 86 per cent of Pakistan’s mobile phone requirements during the first seven months of 2026, highlighting the growing dominance of locally assembled devices in the country’s smartphone and feature-phone market.
