ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Director General ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif will jointly deliver a critical briefing today (Sunday) on the national security situation, in the presence of senior leaders from all major political parties. The session will focus on Pakistan’s defense readiness and the country’s ongoing diplomatic efforts amid rising regional tensions.
The high-level briefing, seen as a significant moment of civil-military alignment, is aimed at reinforcing a unified national stance. Officials will update participants on the government’s response strategies and cross-institutional coordination in light of recent provocations and security developments.
In a parallel move, the President has convened a special session of the National Assembly for 5 PM on Monday. The escalating Pakistan-India standoff will be a key agenda item, with lawmakers expected to table a resolution condemning India’s alleged attempts to unilaterally alter the Indus Waters Treaty.
These engagements are being viewed as pivotal steps to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, reinforce regional stability, and assert the country’s national security interests on the global stage.
Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan and DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif, addressed a joint press conference to brief the public on the evolving regional landscape.
During the briefing, DG ISPR refuted Indian claims and reiterated the military’s full preparedness to defend the country’s territorial integrity. He also labeled the recent Pahalgam attack as a suspected false-flag operation, pointing to India’s swift accusations and retaliatory actions as suspicious.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar criticized India’s role as a destabilizing force in the region, warning that New Delhi’s conduct poses a broader threat to South Asian peace. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s opposition to terrorism in all its forms and its rejection of its use for political purposes.
