The 29-year-old ends nearly seven-year Pakistan career after 45 international appearances and moves towards broadcasting and match officiating
LAHORE: Pakistan women’s fast bowler Aimen Anwar has announced her retirement from international cricket with immediate effect, bringing an end to a career that spanned nearly seven years, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.
The 29-year-old represented Pakistan in eight One-Day Internationals and 37 T20 Internationals between July 2016 and February 2023.
During her 45-match international career, Aimen claimed four wickets in ODIs and 29 wickets in T20Is, establishing herself as part of Pakistan’s pace-bowling options across major international competitions.
Aimen Represented Pakistan at Multiple World Cups
Aimen made her international debut against England in Southampton in 2016, becoming the 37th cricketer to represent Pakistan women in T20 Internationals.
Subsequently, she made her ODI debut against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2017 and became Pakistan women’s 76th ODI cap.
Moreover, the fast bowler represented Pakistan at several major ICC tournaments. She featured in the national squads for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cups in 2018, 2020 and 2022-23.
She also represented Pakistan at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in 2022.
Former Pacer Moves Into Match Officiating
Aimen began her domestic cricket journey with Karachi Under-19 during the PCB National Under-19 Women’s Championship in January 2010. Her performances eventually opened the door to international cricket six years later.
More recently, however, she has explored opportunities beyond playing and started working as a broadcaster.
Furthermore, Aimen has entered match officiating after successfully completing an induction course in January.
She recently made her debut as a match referee during the ongoing National Women’s Under-19 Tournament, signalling a new chapter in her involvement with cricket.
Her immediate retirement now formally concludes an international playing career that began in 2016 and included appearances at both ODI and T20 World Cups for Pakistan.
