A Pakistani international student has suffered facial fractures after allegedly being subjected to racist abuse and a violent assault in Glasgow.
Musadiq Ismail, who moved to the United Kingdom from Pakistan in September 2025, said he was attacked near the Citizens Theatre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Ismail is currently studying for an MSc in International Financial Management at Middlesex University. He said he was walking home at around 3:30am when a man began following him and shouting aggressively.
According to Ismail, the man repeatedly told him, “You don’t deserve to be here” and “Go back to your country.”
Student Says Attack Turned Violent
Ismail said he initially tried to avoid confrontation and continued walking despite the man’s behaviour.
The situation escalated when the attacker allegedly pushed him several times. Ismail said he eventually pushed the man back in an attempt to protect himself.
The suspect then allegedly punched and assaulted him repeatedly.
The attack left Ismail with heavy bleeding from his nose. His clothes were also covered in blood following the assault.
The student later reported the incident to police and was advised to seek medical treatment.
Hospital Confirms Facial Fractures
Ismail said he was examined at a hospital, where doctors carried out a CT scan and an eyesight examination.
Medical staff subsequently confirmed that he had suffered facial fractures.
He returned to the police station the following day to provide further information about his injuries and update investigators on his medical condition.
The case has been recorded under crime reference 0388647/26.
Police have not yet identified the alleged attacker, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Student Calls for Immediate Action
Speaking to Geo News, Ismail said the incident had left him frightened, traumatised and concerned about his safety.
He said he continues to experience considerable pain, particularly in the areas where he was repeatedly struck.
“I never imagined that such a violent attack could happen to me in Great Britain,” Ismail said.
The Pakistani student has appealed to police to treat the case seriously, identify the suspect and make an immediate arrest.
The incident has also raised concerns over the safety of international students and the impact of racist abuse on people living and studying abroad.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and work to identify the person responsible.
