A tragic incident unfolded in Sydney as a security guard of Pakistani origin, Ahmad Tahir, succumbed to his injuries from the recent attack, while another guard from the same background fights for his life in the hospital.
The attack, which occurred in the Bondi suburb of Sydney, claimed the lives of five women and a male security guard, with twelve others remaining hospitalized.
In the wake of this senseless violence, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese received condolences from across the globe, including from the Vatican where Pope Francis expressed deep sadness and offered spiritual support to those affected. The attacker, identified as Joel Cauchi, was known to authorities in Queensland, and police have engaged with his family following the incident.
Witnesses recounted the terrifying scene as Cauchi, dressed in shorts and an Australian rugby league jersey, wielded a knife in Westfield Bondi Junction mall, indiscriminately attacking people.
