Pakistan’s women cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the opening ODI at Hambantota on Thursday. The visitors comfortably chased 211 runs with seven overs remaining. Consequently, Pakistan secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match one-day international series.
Feroza and Sidra Lead Pakistan’s Winning Chase
Pakistan produced a disciplined batting display after Sri Lanka set a target of 211 runs. Opener Gull Feroza starred with an outstanding 78-run knock. Meanwhile, Sidra Amin contributed a solid 57 runs. Their partnership laid the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Furthermore, Pakistan rotated the strike effectively and punished loose deliveries. The middle order remained composed and completed the chase without major setbacks. As a result, the visitors crossed the target with confidence and authority.
Pakistan Eyes Series Victory
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 210 runs and offered a competitive challenge. However, Pakistan maintained control throughout the innings and finished strongly. The second ODI will be played on Saturday at Hambantota.
Meanwhile, the third and final ODI is scheduled for July 28 at the same venue. After the ODI series, both teams will play three T20 Internationals, beginning on July 31. Therefore, Pakistan will look to seal the series, while Sri Lanka aims to bounce back.
