A Pakistani team won one gold and two silver medals at the International Nuclear Science Olympiad 2026. The third edition took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 2 to 8. The competition brought together around 120 students and experts from 19 countries.
Participants represented China, Japan, Russia, Turkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and several other nations. The International Atomic Energy Agency supported the international competition.
Pakistani Students Secure Top Positions
Muhammad Ali from Government College University Lahore won the gold medal. Meanwhile, Muhammad Usman from F.G. Sir Syed College Rawalpindi secured a silver medal. Seerat Fatima from Nixor College Karachi also won a silver medal.
Additionally, Syed Shuja Haider from Sundar STEM School Lahore represented Pakistan. The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences selected and trained the national team. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission supported the team’s participation and preparation.
Students earned selection through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad. The PAEC initiative identifies promising students and develops their scientific abilities.
Pakistan To Host Olympiad In 2027
The successful performance also brought another achievement for Pakistan. The country will host the fourth International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027. The announcement followed Pakistan’s strong showing at the Jeddah competition.
Meanwhile, Dr Muhammad Maqsood represented the PAEC Directorate of Education during the event. Dr Sajjad Tahir represented PIEAS at the international gathering. Both officials received commemorative mementoes during the ceremony.
The results highlight Pakistan’s growing focus on developing young scientific talent. Furthermore, the 2027 hosting opportunity will strengthen Pakistan’s role in nuclear science education.
