Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir declared on Thursday that Pakistan will never accept India’s regional dominance, emphasizing that the country’s water resources are a “red line” that must not be compromised. His remarks came during a meeting with vice-chancellors, principals, and senior educators.
The army chief stressed the critical role of educators in shaping Pakistan’s future generations, highlighting that they are the nation’s greatest asset. “What I am today is because of my parents and teachers. Educators carry the responsibility to build the character of future Pakistanis and must pass on the country’s story to the next generation,” he said.
The statement is especially significant amid recent tensions, as India threatened to block Pakistan’s water supply following its suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. This move was a reaction to the deadly Pahalgam attack last month in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which killed 26 tourists. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack without presenting evidence, a claim Islamabad denies, offering to participate in an independent investigation.
During weeks of escalating conflict, both countries exchanged missile strikes. Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” a retaliatory military campaign targeting multiple Indian strikes. Pakistan’s air force reportedly downed six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale jets, and destroyed numerous drones. The hostilities ceased on May 10 following a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump.
Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance on the Kashmir dispute, asserting that Pakistan will never compromise or abandon the cause. He stated that the Kashmir issue has become a global concern, making India’s suppression efforts futile.
Rejecting Indian accusations, the COAS labeled terrorism as India’s internal problem, mainly fueled by the oppression and discrimination of minorities, particularly Muslims. He also accused India of supporting terrorists in Balochistan, asserting they have no links with the local Baloch population.
Field Marshal Munir called for strengthening Pakistan’s institutions to function independently under the law and Constitution, free from political influence and personal interests, for the welfare of the people.
Meeting participants expressed full confidence in the armed forces, calling them the country’s pride and pledged their support in protecting Pakistan from hostile agendas.
