The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for upper parts of the country as a westerly wave is expected to bring rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms from Tuesday, October 6, to Wednesday, October 7.
Rain Expected Across Punjab and Islamabad
In Punjab and Islamabad, scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sargodha, Faisalabad and several adjoining districts. Murree and Galiyat may face additional risks because of their hilly terrain.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir Also Affected
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to experience unstable weather. Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely across Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Khyber, Kurram, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also included in the forecast. Areas including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Mirpur, Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Hunza and Gilgit may receive rain and thunderstorms.
Balochistan and Sindh to Remain Mostly Dry
Balochistan is expected to remain mainly hot and dry. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms may occur in Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel during the evening and night of October 6. Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and dry.
The PMD has warned that strong winds, lightning and hail could damage weak structures, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and remain indoors during thunderstorms.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority has also issued a province-wide alert for October 6 and 7. District administrations have been directed to remain prepared, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides.
