Western Nations
Pakistan has emphasized the need to expedite the departure of Afghan refugees awaiting special visas to the US and other Western nations.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, speaking on Rubaroo on Friday, mentioned that after the Taliban takeover in 2021, certain Western-friendly countries sought Pakistan’s assistance in resettling Afghans who faced risks. Pakistan has played a role in facilitating the resettlement of some Afghan refugees to these Western or third countries.

However, Baloch highlighted that it has been two years since then, emphasizing the importance of accelerating the repatriation process to those countries. She clarified that the repatriation plan for illegal immigrants is not an issue governed by an international treaty; rather, it falls under Pakistan’s domestic law.
Afghan refugees expelled from Pakistan have the right to apply for a Pakistan visa through proper channels.
The spokesperson mentioned that the government had informed the Afghan government about its plan to take action against illegal immigrants. It was emphasized that this action would not target registered Afghan refugees living legally in Pakistan.
In response to a question about the Afghan government’s statement on the security situation in Pakistan, Baloch underscored that it is Pakistan’s responsibility to ensure peace in the country.
Pakistan expects Afghanistan to fulfill its commitment to preventing its soil from being used against Pakistan. While she did not disclose specific details about the numbers and identities of terrorists, she highlighted the issue of certain actors finding refuge in Afghanistan, getting trained, and launching attacks in Pakistan. Pakistan’s demand is clear: either take action against them or hand them over.
