PM Orders Immediate Preparations for SCO Summit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially announced that Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in 2027. He has directed all relevant authorities to commence immediate preparations for the high-profile international event. The announcement came during the groundbreaking ceremony of the T-Chowk Flyover Project at Islamabad Expressway — a key infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion at one of the capital’s busiest junctions.
To accommodate the upcoming summit, PM Shehbaz emphasized the need to construct new accommodations and enhance the beautification of Islamabad. He also acknowledged Tajikistan’s gift of saplings, which are being used in ongoing plantation efforts across the city. The prime minister stressed that the event presents a significant opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s development and hospitality on a global stage.
T-Chowk Flyover to Ease Traffic for 100,000 Daily Commuters
The T-Chowk Flyover Project, costing Rs 1,495 million and set for completion in 150 days by February 9, is being self-financed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The 1.034 km-long and 11.30 m-wide flyover will help decongest a junction that currently handles nearly 100,000 vehicles daily.
Speaking at the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the CDA and NESPAK for designing the project without requiring land acquisition, saving Rs 7 billion. He assured that the project would be completed on time without compromising quality.
PM Shehbaz also hinted at launching a new rail car project between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, calling it a potential “great gift” for the twin cities’ residents.
Special monitoring teams will ensure quality throughout the construction, aligning with the prime minister’s directive that national development projects must meet the highest standards.
