ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly protested over a naval incident in its exclusive economic zone on Wednesday. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires and lodged a protest over this incident.
The Foreign Office said the incident occurred on September 15 while the Pakistan Navy conducted its biennial SEASPARK-26 exercise.
The FO said an Indian naval vessel made aggressive manoeuvres dangerously close to a Pakistani naval ship, resulting in contact between the vessels.
Pakistan Raises Concerns Over Naval Incident
According to the FO, the incident violated international law and the 1991 bilateral agreement governing advance notice of military exercises and troop movements.
The Indian envoy was asked to convey Pakistan’s strong rejection of the incident to the Indian government.
Furthermore, Pakistan urged India to follow international law and bilateral agreements designed to prevent dangerous incidents at sea.
The FO said Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in New Delhi would also lodge a similar protest with India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
India Lodges Counter-Protest
Earlier, India summoned Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in New Delhi following the naval collision in the Arabian Sea.
India accused Pakistani naval units of unacceptable conduct that allegedly caused the collision with an Indian Navy vessel.
The Indian Foreign Ministry said it urged Pakistani authorities to ensure naval units exercised due care and respected relevant bilateral agreements.
Meanwhile, both countries have issued competing accounts of the incident and exchanged formal protests.
The latest development comes amid continued tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours following their military confrontation in May 2025.
The naval incident has added another point of friction between Pakistan and India as both sides call for adherence to maritime safety rules.
