The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) maintained its positive trend on Monday. Strong buying interest lifted the benchmark KSE-100 Index by 268.58 points.
The index closed at 171,153.16 points, up 0.16% from the previous session. During trading, it reached an intraday high of 171,732 points.
Investors showed interest in several major sectors. These included automobile assemblers, cement companies, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration firms, oil marketing companies and refineries.
Major Stocks Trade Higher
Several index-heavy stocks supported the market’s upward movement. HUBCO, MARI, OGDC, PPL, POL, PSO, SSGC, NBP and UBL traded in positive territory.
The latest gains followed a volatile week at the PSX. Last week, investor sentiment shifted sharply amid concerns over regional tensions and energy supplies.
The KSE-100 Index gained 372.73 points during the previous week. It closed at 170,884.59 points, showing a weekly increase of 0.22%.
Global Markets Also Show Gains
Meanwhile, Asian stock markets moved higher on Monday. Strong demand for artificial intelligence technology supported major chipmakers.
Oil prices also eased slightly. Reports suggested that more oil was reaching global markets despite continuing tensions in the Gulf region.
US stock futures also remained positive. S&P 500 futures gained 0.4%, while Nasdaq futures rose 0.6%.
In Europe, EUROSTOXX 50 and DAX futures each gained 0.4%. FTSE futures also increased by 0.2%.
Investors Watch Interest Rates
Global bond markets remained under pressure after a sharp selloff. US two-year Treasury yields climbed 36 basis points over two weeks.
The yield reached 4.7604%, its highest level since mid-2024. Investors are now closely watching the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decisions.
Market expectations also point to continued uncertainty over future US monetary policy. These global developments could influence investor sentiment in Pakistan in the coming sessions.
