ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Republic of Korea successfully co-hosted a two-day United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Conference in Islamabad, drawing participation from senior military officials, government dignitaries, and high-ranking UN delegates from across the globe.
Prominent attendees included the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, along with members of the 157-nation UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations.
In his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar hailed the event as โa vital step towards global peace,โ emphasizing the need for collective action to ensure lasting stability worldwide. He underscored Pakistanโs vital contribution to international peacekeeping, noting that over 235,000 Pakistani personnel have served in UN missions to date.
Paying tribute to the 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who laid down their lives in service, Dar honored their sacrifice and commitment to global peace.
The foreign minister also reiterated Pakistanโs principled stance on the Kashmir issue, declaring that true global peace cannot be achieved without its resolution. He urged the UN to implement its long-standing resolutions on Kashmir and reaffirmed Pakistanโs dedication to a peaceful settlement.
Dar further highlighted growing challenges faced by peacekeeping missions, particularly the threat posed by misinformation, which undermines international peace efforts. He concluded by reaffirming Pakistanโs unwavering support for the UN Charter and its commitment to promoting peace and stability around the world.
