Vision Pakistan 2047 Expected to Launch on August 12
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to unveil Vision Pakistan 2047 on Wednesday, August 12, setting out a long-term roadmap for Pakistan’s economic and social development.
The launch is expected to coincide with International Youth Day and will focus heavily on sustainable economic growth, innovation and opportunities for younger generations.
An official communication reviewed by Business Recorder says the initiative is being prepared as a national development framework extending to 2047, when Pakistan will mark 100 years since independence.
The government wants the new vision to provide a common direction for federal ministries and institutions over the next two decades.
The framework is expected to cover economic transformation, human development, technology, environmental sustainability and governance reforms.
Federal ministries have been asked to submit their long-term priorities before the expected launch.
The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme has instructed ministries to collect proposals from their departments, autonomous organisations and subordinate offices.
Those proposals are expected to include strategic objectives, major reforms, policy commitments and measurable development targets extending through 2047.
Government Targets Major Economic Transformation by 2047
Economic expansion is expected to remain at the centre of the new national vision.
Pakistan has previously outlined ambitions to become a trillion-dollar economy during the next decade and eventually build an economy worth several trillion dollars by 2047.
The Planning Ministry has publicly discussed a target of reaching as much as $3 trillion in economic output by 2047, depending on Pakistan’s ability to sustain significantly higher growth rates.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has previously said Pakistan could approach a $2 trillion economy by 2047 with annual growth of around seven percent.
He said stronger productivity and growth of around nine percent could potentially push the economy towards $3 trillion.
The long-term strategy is expected to emphasise exports, investment and stronger participation in global supply chains.
The government also wants to improve productivity and create a more competitive business environment capable of attracting domestic and international investment.
These goals will require sustained economic reforms rather than short-term measures.
Officials are expected to identify specific targets that can be measured over time and linked to the broader national development strategy.
Youth, Technology and Climate Resilience to Shape New Roadmap
Young Pakistanis are expected to play a central role in Vision Pakistan 2047.
The government wants ministries to develop programmes that expand employment, entrepreneurship, skills development and innovation opportunities for younger citizens.
Technology and digital transformation are also expected to feature prominently in the final framework.
Official instructions say ministries should identify long-term priorities involving technological advancement and human capital development.
Environmental sustainability will form another major component.
Government departments have been asked to include policies dealing with climate challenges and sustainable development as part of their submissions.
Governance reforms will also be included, with ministries expected to propose structural improvements rather than routine administrative measures.
The government is also expected to connect Vision Pakistan 2047 with its existing national economic planning framework so that shorter-term reforms contribute towards the country’s longer-term targets.
The broader economic strategy already places emphasis on export growth, digital development, social inclusion, environmental protection and infrastructure.
Officials say the objective is to create a unified national roadmap rather than allow individual ministries to pursue disconnected development priorities.
The real test, however, will come after the launch.
Achieving the vision’s targets will require consistent implementation across successive governments, stronger institutions, greater investment and sustained economic growth over many years.
The detailed Vision Pakistan 2047 document is expected to provide clearer targets once Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally unveils the programme on August 12.
