Pakistan secured four bronze medals in tug of war and mas wrestling at the sixth World Nomad Games in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The Pakistani contingent delivered strong performances across traditional sports, competing against athletes from several countries. The medal haul included two bronze medals in tug of war and two in mas wrestling.
Tayyab Raza Awan Wins Tug-of-War Bronze
Tayyab Raza Awan claimed a bronze medal in the 11X tug-of-war event after a series of competitive matches.
He defeated opponents representing Russia, Georgia and the United Kingdom during the competition. Awan then faced an Iranian competitor in the third-place match and secured victory to earn Pakistan its first bronze medal.
Pakistan also finished third in the 88X team tug-of-war event.
The Pakistani team competed against several strong sides, including traditional rivals India. The team eventually defeated Iran in the third-place contest to secure another bronze medal.
During the event, Pakistan faced teams from the United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil and Georgia.
Two More Medals in Mas Wrestling
Pakistan added two more bronze medals through its mas wrestling competitors.
Muhammad Asim won bronze in the 90kg category after defeating an Iranian opponent in a closely contested match.
In the women’s competition, Iqra Naseeb secured another bronze medal in the 90kg-plus category.
With these results, Pakistan finished the competition with a total of four bronze medals.
Pakistan Competes Across Traditional Sports
The Pakistani delegation participated in several disciplines at the 2026 World Nomad Games, including equestrian sports, mas wrestling, tug of war and archery.
The World Nomad Games promote traditional sports and cultural heritage associated with Central Asian and nomadic communities. The event began in 2014 and features competitions such as traditional wrestling, archery, horse racing and tug of war.
The Pakistan Sports Board supported the Traditional Sports Federation in facilitating Pakistan’s participation in the sixth edition of the Games.
The President, Prime Minister and Pakistan Sports Board congratulated the athletes and organisers for their performances and for representing Pakistan on the international stage.
