Pakistan has strongly criticised the Afghan Taliban leadership over its approach to resolving growing tensions between the neighbouring countries. Islamabad described recent remarks by Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid as reflecting a deeply misguided approach.
The response followed Mujahid’s claims that Pakistan lacked the willingness to resolve bilateral disputes through dialogue. He also said diplomatic efforts involving Afghanistan and mediating countries had failed to ease tensions.
Pakistan Identifies Terrorism as Main Obstacle
In an official statement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accused the Afghan Taliban leadership of blaming Islamabad while ignoring terrorism originating from Afghan territory.
The ministry stressed that Pakistan would not tolerate terrorist sanctuaries across its borders. It also declared that terrorism remained a red line and the safety of Pakistani citizens was non-negotiable.
Furthermore, Islamabad warned that it reserved the right to take necessary measures under international law. These measures would aim to eliminate threats to national security, regardless of their origin.
Islamabad Demands Concrete Action From Kabul
Pakistan said the responsibility for addressing cross-border security threats rested with the Afghan Taliban administration. It also warned that Kabul’s continued inaction would prevent improvements in bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to dismantle militant sanctuaries, particularly those linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Previous diplomatic efforts involving Qatar, Turkiye and China failed to produce a lasting solution. Consequently, tensions have continued alongside cross-border attacks and military exchanges.
Pakistan maintains that Kabul must take practical steps against militant groups operating from Afghan territory. However, the Afghan Taliban leadership has rejected Islamabad’s accusations and blamed Pakistani policies for the ongoing dispute.
