ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan, alongside Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, reaffirmed unity to contain the Iran war and reduce the risk of further military escalation during a quadrilateral meeting.
Speaking after the second round of consultations, Dar said the foreign ministers emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path toward lasting peace. He stressed the importance of adhering to the United Nations Charter, particularly principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Moreover, the ministers held detailed discussions on the evolving regional situation and explored ways to achieve an early and permanent end to the conflict. They expressed deep concern over the devastating humanitarian and economic impact of the war, agreeing that continued fighting would only result in further destruction.
Meanwhile, Dar revealed that he briefed counterparts on the possibility of facilitating talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. The participating countries voiced full support for Pakistanโs mediation efforts, reflecting growing confidence in its diplomatic role.
In addition, Dar highlighted Pakistanโs ongoing engagement with global stakeholders under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He noted that Islamabad has maintained close coordination with international partners to de-escalate tensions and promote a peaceful resolution.
Furthermore, Dar said he held a detailed conversation with Wang Yi, who expressed strong backing for Pakistanโs initiative. He also spoke with the United Nations secretary-general, who endorsed the peace efforts.
Concluding his remarks, Dar said both Washington and Tehran have shown confidence in Pakistanโs role and that Islamabad stands ready to host meaningful negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting settlement.
