Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India over the reported movement of an Indian Navy vessel into Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The incident occurred on September 15, 2026, during Pakistan Navy’s SEASPARK-26 exercise.
Pakistan described the Indian vessel’s actions as highly provocative and unacceptable.
The Foreign Office summoned the Indian chargé d’affaires in Islamabad and formally conveyed its protest.
Naval Vessels Came Into Contact
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the Indian vessel carried out aggressive manoeuvres close to a Pakistani naval ship.
The two vessels subsequently came into contact.
Pakistan said the incident occurred while its navy was conducting the biennial SEASPARK-26 exercise.
The Foreign Office said the incident raised concerns over maritime safety and regional tensions.
Pakistan Cites International Law
Pakistan said the incident constituted a serious violation of international law.
It also cited the 1991 bilateral agreement covering advance notice of military exercises, manoeuvres and troop movements.
The Foreign Office urged India to strictly follow international law and existing bilateral agreements.
Pakistan said such arrangements are important for preventing incidents at sea.
Diplomatic Protest Sent to New Delhi
Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in New Delhi will also deliver a formal demarche to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Islamabad has also called on the international community to encourage restraint and compliance with international obligations.
Pakistan said further incidents could increase tensions in South Asia.
India Also Lodges Protest
India separately summoned Pakistan’s senior diplomat in New Delhi over the maritime incident.
According to Reuters, India described the conduct of Pakistani naval units as unacceptable and unprofessional and said their actions led to the collision.
The competing accounts mean that details surrounding the contact between the vessels remain disputed.
Tensions Remain High
The latest maritime incident comes after a major military confrontation between Pakistan and India in May 2025.
The two countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, 2025, after several days of hostilities.
The latest exchange of diplomatic protests adds another point of tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
