Pakistan Post to Undergo Rs. 6.6 Billion Digital Transformation Under Automation Project
Pakistan Post is on the verge of a comprehensive digital transformation after the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved a groundbreaking โAutomation of Post Officeโ project. The initiative, costing Rs. 6.644 billion and funded by the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KExim), aims to modernize and digitize postal services across the country.
Modernization and Digitization of Postal Services
The project will digitize 2,761 post offices nationwide, introducing modern technology to streamline operations, enhance financial services, and improve overall service delivery. Officials highlighted that Pakistan Post has faced a significant decline in revenueโlosing nearly 65% of its market share to private competitors who embraced digital systems much earlier. The new automation plan is expected to bridge this gap, strengthening Pakistan Postโs position as a key player in the countryโs communication and financial infrastructure.
The project will also upgrade end-to-end postal operations, including automated sorting, tracking systems, and enhanced customer service platforms. This digital overhaul is seen as a critical step toward reviving Pakistan Postโs relevance in an increasingly technology-driven market.
CDWP Approves Multiple Development Projects
The automation project was part of a larger CDWP meeting on Saturday, during which seven development projects worth Rs. 34.66 billion were approved. Additionally, two major projects costing Rs. 44.62 billion were recommended to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) for final approval.
The approved initiatives span crucial sectors including education, governance, health, higher education, information technology, housing, power, transport, and water resources. Notable among them is the establishment of a Danish School in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.319 billion, aimed at expanding access to quality education in the region.
With the approval of the automation project, Pakistan Post is poised to enter a new era of digital efficiency, improved service delivery, and renewed financial sustainability.
