Pakistan has launched a new digital system named Shikra to monitor passport processing in real time across the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the system during his visit to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. The initiative marks a major step toward digitising public services and improving citizen facilitation.
What Is the Shikra Monitoring System?
Shikra stands for Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-Based Response Analytics. The system allows real-time tracking of passport applications, printing stages, and delivery performance.
Every step is now digitally monitored. This includes submission, verification, printing, and dispatch. As a result, delays and inefficiencies can be identified instantly.
24/7 Monitoring and Call Centre Activated
Alongside Shikra, a 24/7 monitoring room and a dedicated call centre have become operational. These facilities aim to provide round-the-clock oversight and immediate public support.
Meanwhile, the system for issuing Emergency Travel Documents has been fully digitised. This change ensures faster processing during urgent travel needs.
Improved Security and International Standards
The interior minister stated that Pakistan’s passport system now matches global best practices. He confirmed that security features meet ICAO international standards.
New automatic German printing machines have increased production capacity. Human intervention in printing has been eliminated. Consequently, accuracy and reliability have improved significantly.
Performance Monitoring and Crowd Management
Officials briefed the minister on an integrated digital dashboard. The platform enables daily operational reviews and staff performance evaluations.
Under the new setup, crowd levels at passport offices are detected automatically. In addition, the Network Management System tracks machinery status and application backlogs. As a result, management can respond quickly to pressure points.
Government’s Vision for Citizen Services
Minister Naqvi praised the department’s leadership and technical teams. He said the government aims to deliver fast, secure, and globally standardised services.
According to him, technology-driven governance remains a top priority. Therefore, Shikra will help build transparency and public trust.
A Step Toward Digital Governance
With Shikra now operational, Pakistan moves closer to fully digital public service delivery. The system is expected to reduce delays, enhance accountability, and improve citizen experience nationwide.
