A high-level Kuwaiti delegation met Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The meeting focused on strengthening defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait.
The delegation was led by Kuwait’s Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah. Lieutenant General Khalid Darj Saad Al-Shriaan, Chief of General Staff of Kuwait’s Armed Forces, also attended the meeting.
Pakistan and Kuwait Sign New Defence Protocol
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral defence relations. They also explored ways to further strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.
A key development came with the signing of the “Protocol Agreement-2026” between Pakistan and Kuwait.
The new agreement expands the military cooperation framework established under the “Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023.” It provides a broader basis for cooperation between the armed forces of both countries.
Under the new protocol, Pakistan’s armed forces will provide assistance to Kuwait’s armed forces in several areas.
These areas include training, capacity building and border management, along with other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.
New Agreement Builds on Existing Military Partnership
The signing of the protocol marks another step in the longstanding defence relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait.
Both countries have maintained defence ties based on mutual trust and cooperation. Therefore, the latest agreement seeks to build further on the framework established through their earlier defence agreement.
The new arrangement also reflects the shared strategic interests of Pakistan and Kuwait. Moreover, it highlights their continued focus on strengthening military cooperation.
Focus on Security and Regional Stability
Pakistan and Kuwait also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their partnership in defence and security.
The two sides stressed the importance of cooperation in support of mutual security. They also linked their strengthened partnership with wider regional peace and stability.
The visit by the Kuwaiti delegation therefore adds fresh momentum to defence relations between the two countries.
With the Protocol Agreement-2026 now signed, Pakistan and Kuwait have established an expanded framework for military cooperation. The agreement is expected to support collaboration in training, capacity building, border management and other agreed defence areas.
