ISLAMABAD: Pakistani aviation authorities issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting several air routes across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab from May 12 to May 14 due to planned military activities and operational exercises.
According to official sources, the temporary restrictions will affect selected flight corridors during the notified period. Authorities stated that the measures aim to ensure aviation safety while security forces conduct training operations and related exercises in designated regions.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the Gadani and Somiani firing ranges will remain active throughout the same timeframe. Security agencies are expected to use the facilities for operational drills and military preparedness activities.
The Gadani Firing Range and Somiani Firing Range are among Pakistanโs major military testing and exercise zones frequently utilized for defense training, weapons testing, and strategic operational exercises.
Furthermore, aviation authorities advised airlines and pilots to follow revised flight procedures and remain updated regarding temporary route adjustments during the restricted period. Officials also emphasized that the restrictions remain precautionary and form part of routine aviation coordination during military exercises.
The NOTAM triggered increased attention on social media, where users speculated about possible regional security developments. However, authorities have not announced any extraordinary security situation linked to the temporary airspace measures.
Pakistan periodically issues NOTAMs during military drills, air defense exercises, and operational testing activities to maintain coordination between civil aviation and defense institutions. Analysts noted that such restrictions help reduce risks to commercial aviation operations during active military use of designated airspace.
Officials further stated that normal flight operations are expected to resume after the conclusion of the notified activities on May 14, subject to operational requirements and aviation clearance procedures.
