Pakistan’s freelancers earned more than $350 million in export receipts during the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27.
According to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data cited by The News, freelancer export earnings reached $352 million during July and August 2026.
The figure represents a 44% increase from the $244 million recorded during the same period last year.
IT Freelancers Lead Export Earnings
Freelancers providing IT-related services generated $212 million during the two-month period.
Non-IT freelancers contributed another $139 million.
The figures show continued growth in Pakistan’s freelance services sector and its contribution to the country’s export earnings.
Pakistani Freelancers Expand Global Presence
Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) Chairperson Ibrahim Amin said Pakistani freelancers are strengthening their presence on international freelancing platforms.
He said the rising export receipts reflect the growing participation of Pakistani professionals in the global digital economy.
“Our freelancers are fast learners and quick to acquire in-demand skills, particularly in AI tools and applications,” Amin said.
He added that many freelancers are now working in teams and offering multiple services through agencies registered on international platforms.
Skills Development Supports Growth
Amin also highlighted the role of government agencies, private organisations and non-governmental organisations in expanding digital skills training.
Various programmes are being conducted across Pakistan to equip young people with market-oriented skills.
These programmes focus on practical skills alongside formal academic qualifications.
The continued growth in freelancer export earnings indicates that Pakistan’s digital workforce is becoming an increasingly important source of foreign exchange for the country.
