Pakistani security forces thwarted an attempted incursion by Afghan Taliban fighters in the Gulistan sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Thursday, security sources said.
According to the sources, Afghan Taliban personnel attempted to enter Pakistani territory and opened fire, prompting an immediate response from Pakistani forces.
Several Afghan Taliban fighters were reportedly killed during the retaliatory action, the sources claimed.
Meanwhile, intermittent exchanges of fire continued in the border area as Pakistani security forces remained on high alert.
The sources said Pakistani forces were prepared to respond to any further attempt to cross the border from Afghan territory.
The latest clash comes as tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain high.
Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan said it conducted strikes at 10 locations inside Afghanistan after accusing drones from Afghan territory of violating its airspace.
Pakistan said the strikes targeted locations linked to the reported violations.
However, Afghanistan rejected Pakistan’s account and said the strikes killed four civilians.
The latest developments have further raised tensions along the two countries’ shared border.
Both sides have exchanged allegations in recent days as security incidents and military activity continue to increase along the frontier.
