Pakistan’s celebrations following their ODI Tri-Series triumph suffered a setback after the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a financial penalty on the national cricket team.
The ICC announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, that Pakistan’s players had been fined five percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during Saturday’s final against Sri Lanka in Lahore.
Why Did ICC Fine Pakistan Cricket Team?
According to the ICC, Pakistan were found to be one over short of the required bowling rate after permitted time allowances were considered.
Match referee Jeff Crowe, representing the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the penalty.
The violation falls under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Under the regulation, players lose five percent of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Shaheen Afridi Accepts ICC Penalty
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed punishment.
Consequently, no formal disciplinary hearing was required.
On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz filed the charge.
Pakistan Defeat Sri Lanka in Dramatic Final
Despite the disciplinary setback, Pakistan secured an impressive three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka posted 325 runs for eight wickets, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 326.
However, Pakistan successfully completed the chase with nine balls remaining.
Opening batter Fakhar Zaman delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 127 runs from 99 deliveries.
His remarkable innings included 11 boundaries and six sixes.
The victory secured the tri-series trophy and provided valuable confidence ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
