The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (nCERT) has told every internet service provider, along with all sectoral and provincial CERT teams, to get their own constant monitoring systems in place right away. The message is straightforward: keep a close eye on networks and vital infrastructure 24/7, and if anything looks suspicious or turns into a real incident, report it to nCERT immediately so everyone can respond together and quickly.
Coordinated National Response
The instructions bring back coordination arrangements that have already proven effective during big national events in the past.
Several major institutionsโthe Ministry of IT and Telecom, PTA, NITB, NTC, and the provincial IT boardsโare now required to name a single point of contact each and send their current phone numbers and email addresses to nCERT no later than March 4, 2026.
At the national level, Dr. Muhammad Yousaf (Director CERT) and Dr. Mujahid Shah (Assistant Director for Incident Management) will serve as the main coordinators.
Stronger Security Guidelines and Backup Plans
Alongside the operational setup, nCERT has released fresh National Baseline Security Guidelines. These are practical, no-nonsense steps any organization can follow to reduce everyday risks: phishing emails, data leaks, ransomware, and sloppy system settings that hackers love to exploit.
