Abdullah Shafique’s Unbeaten 160 Builds Winning Platform
Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
The commanding victory helped Pakistan level the two-match series 1-1.
West Indies had won the opening Test by 90 runs. Pakistan responded strongly in the final match to avoid a series defeat.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 344 runs in their opening innings.
Justin Greaves led the West Indies batting effort with 73 runs from 150 balls. Captain Roston Chase added an important 70 from 126 deliveries.
Brandon King also scored a quick 46, while Shai Hope contributed 29.
Sajid Khan was Pakistan’s leading bowler. He claimed four wickets for 85 runs.
Mohammad Ali, Ubaid Shah and Ali Usman took two wickets each.
Pakistan replied with 387 and secured a valuable first-innings lead of 43 runs.
Abdullah Shafique produced the defining innings of the match. He remained unbeaten on 160 after facing 323 deliveries.
His patient innings included 15 boundaries and three sixes.
Babar Azam supported him with an important 88 from 147 balls. The Pakistan captain struck 10 fours and one six before being run out.
Young opener Azan Awais also made a valuable contribution. He scored 55 from 71 deliveries and gave Pakistan a confident start.
Sajid Khan later added 30 runs as Pakistan strengthened its advantage.
Jomel Warrican was the most successful West Indies bowler. The left-arm spinner took six wickets for 112 runs from 46 overs.
Sajid Khan and Ali Usman Destroy West Indies Batting
Pakistan’s bowlers dominated the West Indies in the second innings.
The hosts were dismissed for only 117 runs in 46.1 overs.
Sajid Khan and Ali Usman shared eight wickets as the batting order collapsed on a deteriorating surface.
Sajid finished with four wickets for 32 runs. Ali Usman claimed four wickets for 39 runs from 19.1 overs.
Kavem Hodge was the highest scorer with 34 runs.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Roston Chase scored 17 each. Shai Hope added 15 from 63 deliveries.
No other West Indies batter was able to build a meaningful partnership.
Brandon King was unable to bat because of an injury.
The West Indies lower order offered little resistance. Mohammad Ali dismissed Justin Greaves for three to end the final recognised batting threat.
The hosts lost their final six available wickets for only 18 runs after reaching 99 for four.
Their collapse left Pakistan needing only 75 runs to win the match.
Babar and Abdullah Complete Comfortable Run Chase
Pakistan lost two wickets during the small chase but remained in complete control.
Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for nine after being caught off Jayden Seales.
Azan Awais scored 18 before Shamar Joseph bowled him with the total on 42.
Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam then completed the chase without further damage.
Both batters remained unbeaten on 24.
Babar finished the match with two sixes and two boundaries in his 30-ball innings.
Pakistan reached 77 for two in 23.3 overs and completed an eight-wicket victory on the fourth day.
The result ended Pakistan’s run of eight consecutive away Test defeats.
It was also the team’s first Test victory outside Pakistan since its win over Sri Lanka in July 2023.
Pakistan had suffered away-series defeats in Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh during that period.
The Port of Spain victory provided a major boost under captain Babar Azam and head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Babar finished as the leading run-scorer of the series with 193 runs.
Abdullah Shafique followed with 184 runs, including the unbeaten 160 that transformed the second Test.
Mohammad Ali was the leading wicket-taker of the series with nine dismissals.
Sajid Khan finished with eight wickets, including four in each innings of the decisive Test.
The victory prevented the West Indies from securing their first Test series triumph over Pakistan since 2000.
Pakistan finished the tour with a determined response after losing the opening match and ensured the series ended level.
