ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday strongly condemned the reported Houthi attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Madina on September 29, calling it a grave provocation and a serious threat to regional peace and security.
In a statement, the Foreign Office (FO) said the facility supplied electricity to the Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque and stressed that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of worshippers and pilgrims must remain protected.
The FO demanded an immediate and unconditional end to what it described as reckless actions. It also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
Pakistan further said it would continue efforts to promote lasting peace and stability across the region.
The statement followed accusations by the Saudi-led coalition that a Houthi drone struck the Taibah electricity distribution station at 5:11am on September 29. Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said an investigation and examination of the drone wreckage confirmed Houthi involvement. One transformer was reportedly damaged, although the wider electricity network remained unaffected.
The Houthis have denied targeting the station or Islamic holy sites.
The incident comes amid renewed fighting between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Houthis. Saudi Arabia has responded to Houthi attacks with airstrikes and continued support for government forces.
Pakistan’s strong support for Saudi Arabia also reflects its defence ties with Riyadh. The countries signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in September 2025. They are also members of the Makkah Defence Alliance with Turkiye, under which an attack on one member is treated as an attack on all.
