Pakistan defeated Oman 7-2 in their final Pool B match of the men’s hockey competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan on Tuesday.
The Green Shirts started strongly at Kawasaki Juko Stadium and held a 2-1 lead at half-time. Rana Waheed scored a hat-trick, while Sufyan Khan added two goals for Pakistan.
Ghazanfar Ali and Mohammad Imad also scored once each as Pakistan maintained control during the match. The victory secured Pakistan’s place in the semi-finals against arch-rivals India.
Pakistan Secure Second Place In Pool B
Pakistan finished second in Pool B with 12 points, behind group leaders Malaysia, who collected 15 points. The team won four of its five matches, with Malaysia handing Pakistan its only defeat.
Pakistan scored 28 goals during the group stage and conceded eight. The Green Shirts will now meet India in the semi-final on October 1.
Pakistan Advance In Cricket As Rain Disrupts Match
Meanwhile, Pakistan also advanced to the men’s cricket semi-finals after rain washed out their quarter-final against Hong Kong, China, in Nisshin, Japan.
The abandoned match sent Pakistan through because they entered the knockout stage as the higher-ranked team. The result also ended Hong Kong’s campaign at the Asian Games.
Later, rain also prevented India from completing its quarter-final against Afghanistan. India advanced under the same tournament provisions after officials abandoned the match.
Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had entered the knockout stage directly based on their rankings. Hong Kong, meanwhile, earned its quarter-final place after finishing second in Group B.
