Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir expected in Dhaka for three-day tour
DHAKA: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are expected to visit Bangladesh on a three-day official tour aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The visit is scheduled to take place shortly after the anticipated China trip of Bangladeshi leader Tarique Rahman, according to emerging reports.
During the high-level meetings in Dhaka, officials from both countries are expected to sign multiple agreements covering trade, defence, industrial cooperation, and regional connectivity.
Furthermore, discussions will likely focus on enhancing military collaboration and boosting defence production capabilities between Islamabad and Dhaka.
The proposed visit signals growing diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Bangladesh after years of limited strategic interaction.
Defence cooperation expected to feature prominently
According to reports, one of the key agreements under discussion involves extensive defence cooperation between the armed forces of both countries.
Under the proposed arrangement, the Pakistan Army would assist in modernising the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory to improve local production of advanced military equipment.
The cooperation may include technical support and industrial development related to sophisticated defence hardware, including drones and missile systems.
Additionally, both sides are expected to explore opportunities for joint military training, defence technology exchange, and expanded security coordination.
Neither the Pakistani nor Bangladeshi governments have officially released detailed statements regarding the reported agreements. However, political observers believe the visit could mark a significant shift in regional strategic relations and defence cooperation in South Asia.
Meanwhile, analysts say stronger ties between Dhaka and Islamabad may also influence broader geopolitical dynamics involving China and regional security partnerships.
