ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially resumed direct trade, marking a historic moment with the first government-backed cargo ship departing from Port Qasim. This marks the first formal commercial exchange between the two nations since the fall of Dhaka, restoring official trade ties after decades.
Under the agreement, Bangladesh will purchase 50,000 tons of Irri rice from Pakistanโs Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), a deal finalized in early February. The shipment will be delivered in two phases, with the second 25,000-ton shipment set for early March.
Additionally, direct shipping routes between the two countries will be re-established, enhancing economic relations. This marks the first time a Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) vessel carrying government cargo will dock at a Bangladeshi port, signifying a new chapter in bilateral trade and maritime cooperation.
