Car Sales Jump 36% YoY, 74% MoM in January
Pakistanโs auto industry recorded a major milestone in January 2026. Sales of cars, pickups, vans, and SUVs surged to 23,055 units. This marks the highest monthly sales in 43 months.
The latest figures show a 36 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales jumped by 74 percent. The sharp rise reflects improving consumer confidence and stronger economic activity.
Cumulative sales during the first seven months of FY26 reached 111,377 units. This is 43 percent higher than 77,686 units sold in the same period last fiscal year.
Analysts say the MoM surge was largely seasonal. Buyers delayed deliveries to secure January registrations. New-year registration plates often increase resale value. This trend boosted January numbers significantly.
Market experts also credit lower interest rates and easing inflation. Improved macroeconomic sentiment played a key role. Entry of new players in the auto sector also supported growth.
Honda, Toyota and Sazgar Post Record Numbers
Major automakers posted impressive gains in January. Sazgar Engineering Works Ltd (SEWL) recorded its highest-ever monthly sales. The company sold 2,004 units, up 72 percent MoM. Its cumulative 7MFY26 sales reached 9,214 units, reflecting 49 percent YoY growth.
Honda Atlas Cars Ltd (HCAR) also achieved a 43-month high. The company posted 3,620 units in January. This represents 64 percent YoY and 86 percent MoM growth.
Honda City and Civic models led the surge. Combined sales rose 69 percent YoY and 93 percent MoM to 3,364 units. BRV and HRV models also performed strongly. Their sales increased 14 percent YoY and 25 percent MoM to 256 units. HCARโs total sales in 7MFY26 stood at 15,659 units, up 68 percent YoY.
Indus Motor Company (IMC) reported 5,060 units in January. This shows 52 percent YoY and 119 percent MoM growth. Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross sales jumped 90 percent YoY and 93 percent MoM to 4,078 units.
Fortuner and IMV sales declined 17 percent YoY. However, they surged to 982 units in January from 196 units in December. IMCโs total sales in 7MFY26 reached 25,623 units, posting 61 percent YoY growth.
Two-Wheelers and Commercial Vehicles Break Records
The two- and three-wheeler segment also delivered strong performance. Sales rose 31 percent YoY and 13 percent MoM to 181,790 units in January. This marks an all-time monthly high.
Cumulative 7MFY26 sales crossed 1.1 million units. This shows 32 percent YoY growth. Atlas Honda Ltd (AHL), maker of the popular CD70, achieved record monthly sales of 157,059 units.
Truck and bus sales also soared. January sales reached 1,101 units, up 77 percent YoY and three times higher than December levels. This is an all-time high for the segment. During 7MFY26, truck and bus sales climbed 92 percent YoY to 4,633 units.
However, tractor sales declined. January tractor sales fell 9 percent YoY and 26 percent MoM to 2,505 units. Cumulative tractor sales in 7MFY26 dropped 23 percent YoY to 15,434 units.
Analysts expect the positive momentum to continue in 2026. Lower interest rates and new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models may further boost demand. The auto sector outlook remains optimistic.
