The federal government has appointed senior diplomat Ali Asad Gilani as Pakistan’s new ambassador to China. He succeeds Khalil Hashmi, whose three-year tenure in Beijing has concluded.
Gilani will assume one of Pakistan’s most significant diplomatic assignments. Moreover, he will oversee bilateral relations with China’s leadership.
He currently serves as Additional Secretary for Asia-Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, he served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Uzbekistan.
Gilani also held the position of Additional Secretary for West Asia. Consequently, he brings extensive diplomatic experience to his new role.
Experienced Diplomat Takes Key Foreign Posting
Officials appointed Gilani as Pakistan continues strengthening relations with China. His experience covers regional diplomacy and strategic foreign policy matters.
The ambassador will help advance cooperation across multiple sectors. Furthermore, he will oversee engagements involving trade, investment, and regional partnerships.
Sources said outgoing ambassador Khalil Hashmi will receive another important assignment. However, officials have not announced details of his next position.
Pakistan And China Strengthen Strategic Partnership
China remains one of Pakistan’s closest strategic and economic partners. Both countries continue expanding cooperation in defence, infrastructure, and commerce.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor remains central to bilateral collaboration. Additionally, both governments continue promoting investment and long-term economic development.
Gilani’s appointment comes as Islamabad and Beijing deepen diplomatic engagement. Therefore, officials expect continued cooperation across key strategic sectors.
