Pakistan and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. Both countries agreed to enhance collaboration in counterterrorism, security, and immigration matters.
The understanding emerged during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and British Under-Secretary Hamish Falconer in Islamabad. Both sides reviewed Pakistan-UK relations and discussed the evolving regional security situation.
Both Countries Expand Security and Immigration Cooperation
The meeting focused on counterterrorism, illegal immigration, institutional cooperation, and police training. Additionally, both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation through practical initiatives.
Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the success of the Upskill Project during the discussions. He said the initiative has strengthened the capacity of Pakistani institutions. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving professional standards through international partnerships.
Both countries also agreed to tackle the growing issue of fraudulent student visas. Officials acknowledged that visa fraud has become a shared concern requiring coordinated action.
The interior minister said Pakistan continues to act against illegal immigration networks without discrimination. Moreover, he stressed the government’s resolve to dismantle human trafficking syndicates exploiting vulnerable people.
Pakistan Highlights Regional Security and Peace Efforts
Mohsin Naqvi also raised concerns about regional security during the meeting. He said several terrorist organizations continue operating from Afghan territory. Therefore, he urged the Afghan government to prevent its soil from being used against Pakistan.
The interior minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to stronger relations with the United Kingdom. He added that both countries can expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Meanwhile, Hamish Falconer praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability. He appreciated Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate understanding between the United States and Iran. Furthermore, he said Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement has strengthened its position as a supporter of global peace.
Falconer also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for promoting regional peace and stability.
