New Agreement Strengthens Cooperation in Social Services
Pakistan and Türkiye have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in social services and social protection.
The agreement was signed in Islamabad following a meeting between Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Türkiye’s Minister for Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş.
The two ministers held detailed discussions on shared social challenges and possible areas of cooperation. Their talks focused on women’s rights, child protection, family welfare and stronger social support systems.
The memorandum is expected to provide a formal framework for cooperation between relevant institutions in both countries. It may also support the exchange of expertise, policy models and successful welfare programmes.
Officials said Pakistan and Türkiye share strong historical and diplomatic relations. The latest agreement aims to extend that partnership into important areas of social development.
Both countries are expected to work together on policies designed to support vulnerable communities. These may include women, children, low-income families and people facing social or economic difficulties.
Women’s and Children’s Rights Remain Key Priority
Azam Nazeer Tarar and Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş agreed to increase cooperation for the protection of women’s and children’s rights.
The ministers discussed the need for effective laws, institutions and support services. They also highlighted the importance of protecting women and children from violence, exploitation and discrimination.
The two sides may exchange information on shelter services, legal assistance, rehabilitation programmes and social welfare initiatives.
Pakistan and Türkiye could also cooperate on professional training for social workers and officials involved in family protection programmes.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to improving access to public services. It also aims to strengthen institutional responses to social problems.
The ministers stressed that women must have greater access to education, justice, healthcare and economic opportunities.
They also recognised that children require safe environments, quality education and strong legal protection.
Family Stability and Social Protection Discussed
The stability of the family system was another major subject discussed during the meeting.
Both ministers highlighted the important role of families in building peaceful and stable societies. They agreed that governments must develop policies that support families during financial and social difficulties.
The discussions also covered stronger social protection systems. These systems can help citizens facing poverty, unemployment, disability or other challenges.
The agreement may encourage both countries to share successful approaches to welfare delivery and family support.
Pakistan and Türkiye are expected to continue consultations through their relevant ministries and departments. Further meetings may be held to develop practical programmes under the memorandum.
The signing of the agreement marks another step in the growing partnership between Islamabad and Ankara.
It also shows that both countries want to strengthen cooperation beyond trade, defence and diplomacy.
Through this initiative, Pakistan and Türkiye aim to create more inclusive social systems and improve protection for vulnerable groups.
